While it may seem obvious to some, many people forget that the monetary value of their home is directly affected by the state of the neighborhood in which they live. Houses frequently sell for cheap because of the neighborhood in which they are located. Raising the value of your neighborhood will inevitably lead to your property being valued at a higher price. How does one go about it.
The simplest step is to do everything within your power to improve the state of your property. Repainting the house and taking on a new landscaping project frequently causes others to follow. Although it is not guaranteed that others will follow, it is definitely better than not trying.
Taking the initiative to enhance other elements of the neighborhood such as mowing the grass in vacant lots can also help. Also, do not overlook the possibility of convincing some (all would be great too) of your neighbors to repaint their house. Let them know that everyone would benefit from it. If money is mentioned as an obstacle, state the fact that you all could get a bulk discount for the paint and that enhancements will bring more money to everyone in the long term.
Good community relations are key. Another thing to do would be to lobby for more police patrols, if necessary. Security always ranks high on the list of prospective buyers. There are many more inexpensive ways of enhancing one's neighborhood. One cannot achieve that goal without initiative. Be a leader!
