Today's edition of the Gleaner brought good news in the form of the announcement that Jamaica's Under-23 football programme is set to begin this year. "What's so special about this?", one might ask. Well, the main benefit is that young players who don't make the senior Reggae Boyz team will still be able to gain experience from playing international matches. International football is a unique affair. Experience is often more important than skill. Jamaican football as a whole will benefit from having an Under-23 programme as it will contribute to refine the country's talent pool. Promising players will no longer lose their momentum due to lack of international football opportunities.
