It highlights the fact that he has been turning down lucrative offers to coach overseas since the 1980's. He prefers to work in Jamaica and develop local talents.

Mills' decision says a lot about his dedication to Jamaican athletics. In most cases, being an athletics coach in Jamaica has not been a rewarding profession financially. However, his years of dedication have been rewarded in terms of sporting glory. To those who don't know, he is Usain Bolt's coach. Glen Mills is the man responsible for guiding Usain Bolt to the heights that he has reached today. Sports fans around the world might have been deprived of witnessing Usain Bolt's mind-blowing performances had Glen Mills opted to leave Jamaica to coach overseas.
