Artists stand up for human rights

posted by Focused on March 18, 2011 @ 8:21 am in MEDIA

The Huffington Post published a refreshing article yesterday. It refers to the fact that "more than 130 artists and writers" plan to boycott a branch of the Guggenheim Museum being built in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates unless the local authorities make a bigger effort to ensure that the rights of the site's workers are protected. Many workers on sites in that region work under slavery-like conditions. Please read the article here.

The international artists' threat of boycotting The Abu Dhabi branch of the museum ensures that more light is shed on another form of human exploitation. The move is also a reminder that solidarity is necessary in order to bring a better change to humanity.

The thought of workers being exploited in slavery-like conditions in 2011 is very disturbing. Whatever one can do to stop this practice, one should do it. Boycotting goes a long way.

What are your views, do you think that enough is done to stop modern-day slavery?
