Leadership requires courage. Being a leader involves initiative and taking the road less traveled. As a result, leaders often find themselves alone in the early stages of establishing their vision. Faith in themselves provides leaders with the strength required to stick to their vision. When people see this, they are inspired to follow the leader. Does this mean that followers shouldn’t get any credit ? Absolutely not.
There cannot be a movement without followers. Followers lead other followers towards following their leader. So there is always some aspect of leadership involved in following. Please watch the ‘following’ video to get a better picture of the concept.
How does this relate to Jamaica ? Countless discussions about the state of Jamaica continuously lead to calls for good leadership and change. Any change involves someone doing something different and new. Will you be the change ? If so, you will sometimes be in situations where you stand out and come across as insane. On the other hand, you might be inspired by someone working towards change but feel reluctant to openly show support to that person through fear of how you might be perceived. Whether you are the leader or follower, remember that your actions will influence the actions of others.
You have the power.
