Stadiums can go green too

posted by Focused on December 1, 2010 @ 5:22 pm in ENVIRONMENT

Stadiums, as you can imagine, consume a lot of energy during events. Because of the cost of energy, promoters of events held in stadiums can find it hard to break even regardless of whether they manage to sell all tickets. If the event is held at night, lighting is necessary and will cost a fortune. Even if it is held during the day, the inevitable use of electrical appliances will send the electricity bill through the roof.

Stadium managers can’t afford not to go ‘green’. Renewable energy is the way to go. It is environmentally friendly and saves money in the long run. Any new stadium built in Jamaica should be designed to function primarily on solar energy and other forms of renewable energy. The principle should also apply to the eventual refurbishing of the National Stadium and all other existing stadiums in Jamaica.
