Urban relaxation: a walk in the park

posted by Focused on December 21, 2010 @ 10:26 am in CULTURE

Attending the Half-Way-Tree Live cultural event was a great experience. Held in Nelson Mandela Park, Half-Way-Tree, the event featured stage performances ranging from music to comedy. While the performances were good, there was something even better about the event.

I find that being in an urban and open space such as a park brings a unique vibe to a festival. The constant flow of persons through Nelson Mandela Park was like a renewal of the park’s overall energy. It felt really good to enjoy live music and comedy in a relaxed outdoor setting. Kingston would benefit from having events like Half-Way-Tree-Live taking place all the time.

Being able to relax to performances in a park while waiting for your bus is a great enhancement to the quality of urban life. As a matter of fact, anything that encourages people to mingle is worth promoting. Parks help to bring peace in a fast-paced setting.

In addition to that, park festivals can also be another attraction to draw tourists into Kingston. Everyone wins. Locals and visitors.
