A lot of people have been speaking out against the proliferation of negativity in some of today’s popular music. It is good to take a stand, especially when dealing with something as powerful as music. However, you have to be careful about the way you go about it. Very often, people will boycott and call for the banning of artists whose music they deem negative without spending time to promote creators of positive music.
Time spent promoting positive music should exceed the time spent trying to ban the creators of negative music. Why? Because when you focus your attention on someone, you empower that person. The more you do it, the more power you give that person. Who do you want to empower? Remember that there are good musicians out there making positive music.
Positive artists have always been there. You don't have to look that hard to find them. They need our support. Shouldn’t someone who makes uplifting music deserve to be rewarded financially and socially? By supporting them and giving them our primary attention, we also help set a standard for upcoming artists.
What will you do?
